Bryn Reyes is a real life sleeping beauty. Afflicted with Klein-Levin Syndrome, she suffers episodes of prolonged sleep that steal weeks, and sometimes even months, from her life. But unlike most KLS patients, she doesn’t spend each episode in a catatonic state or wake up with no recollection of the time she’s missed. Instead, Bryn spends half her life in an alternate reality made up of her memories. For Bryn, the past is a place, until one day a boy she’s never met before washes up on the illusory beach of her dreams with no memory of who he is.

But the appearance of this strange boy isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Bryn’s symptoms are worsening, her body weakening as she’s plagued by hallucinations even while awake. Her only hope of finding a cure is to undergo experimental treatment created by a German specialist. But when Dr. Banz reveals that he knows more about her strange symptoms than he originally let on, Bryn learns that the boy in her head might actually be the key to understanding what’s happening to her, and worse, that if she doesn’t find out his identity before it’s too late, they both may not survive.

Plot:

Bryn Reyes has Klein-Levin Syndrome, KLS, and when something triggers a reaction from her, she can slip into sleep for weeks at a time. She’s been having these long periods of sleep since childhood. Something new has been happening lately while she sleeps; she has dreams. According to the doctors she’s been seeing, the dreams aren’t common for people with KLS. Something even more odd? She sees a boy she’s never met in her dreams. Everything else in the dreams are memories, both bad and good, except for the boy. She doesn’t know who he is, but neither does he. He’s lost all his memories and he needs to find out why he’s stuck in her dreams. On top of all of the dreaming, Bryn has to deal with her on-again-off-again boyfriend of two years. She finds out that this boyfriend of hers now has another girlfriend. Bryn spends all of her waking hours catching up on missed homework and dreaming about college. Bryn gets worried about her dreams and decides to tell her doctors about the boy. She tells them but she is told that it is probably just another coping method that she’s put upon herself. How will she get better if the doctors don’t believe her? Who is the boy in her dreams? I got this book for review from Laekan Zea Kemp. She asked me if I would be part of the blog tour, and of course I said yes. I am so glad I got to read this book. It’s something so different than anything I’ve read before and I absolutely loved it. I loved reading about Bryn and her friends and when she was in her dream state. This book was beautiful, and the story will stay with me for a long time.

Characters:

Bryn Reyes was the main character of this book. She was a really strong character, but she was perfectly broken. She didn’t know what to do and was scared and frustrated and I think that it perfectly captured a teenage girl. Just because she had KLS didn’t mean that she stopped wondering about things normal teenage girls worry about. Bryn’s best friends are Dani and Felix. Dani has always been there, and is also her cousin. Felix was a fun, awkward best friend. He was one of my favorite characters because of his sarcasm.

Who Would I Be?:

Even though Felix is my favorite, I would choose to be Bryn. I would like to know what it’s like in her dream world with the mystery boy. I would also want to be her so I could punch her ex-boyfriend. Right in the face. Somewhat solidly. He was so mean and rude to her and she didn’t deserve that with everything that was going on.

Where To Buy?:

Laekan has generously given me all the links of where you can get this book! Check them out here:

Make sure to follow her! She’s very sweet and is amazing at writing :)
