I always forget where one book ends and the other begins, so it’s nice to take some time to reread these books.

I originally read them so fast, and back to back that I would have a hard time differentiating the books from each other. But man oh man I forgot how much happens in this book!

This whole review will be spoilers pretty much, so if you haven’t read the series don’t read this lol.

I forgot how much I love Jace before reading this. He was kind of annoying, but now we’re getting into his past and why he’s torturing himself and IT’S SO GOOD. I think it was such a great plot point to have Jace tied to Sebastian, and I forgot how creepy the last scene is. You see Jace losing ALL control over everything and it’s tearing him apart. Gotta love Cassandra Clare for ripping apart your favorite characters !!

Simon and Isabelle. YESSS. I also forgot how much I love this relationship. This is just the beginning but I’m waiting for one of the sexy scenes in… I think City of Lost Souls. Yes. I love this relationship. It’s so funny because they’re so different from each other, but I think that’s why it works so well. Simon is just clueless about girls and doesn’t see how much Izzy loves him.

Magnus and Alec. Fav couple from anything ever lol. I love seeing the start of this relationship again, too! Alec is so jealous of Will Herondale, and it’s just so funny to actually know who he is this time around. I believe the first time I read this series I read all of The Mortal Instruments books before reading The Infernal Devices, and am just now realizing I should have originally read them in publication order. There are just so many little things that make so much more sense now!

I think the best scene from this book was when Simon stepped in front of Lillith so she would die instead of her attacking Clary. It was just so powerful and showed how much he loves both Clary and Jace. I just love it.

I am so excited to read Clockwork Prince after this!

Here’s the thing. Rereads always take me a long time, but they always make me remember why I loved the book/series in the first place.

I love this series and I say this every single time I read or reread a Cassandra Clare book, but she’s my all time favorite author. I love everything she writes and will forever read everything she writes. The Mortal Instruments series/the Shadowhunter Chronicles are my favorite books and I love ALL of them.

City of Ashes starts off with Jace and Clary being hella awkward around each other because they both love each other but not in the sibling kind of way they’re supposed to. It’s tragic but also funny because I know that everything works out in the end. Lol to the first time I read this and was fine with them being siblings… ha. Anyway. They make everything awkward for everyone, but specifically Simon. Simon has been in love with Clary since the beginning of time blah blah but Clary loves him like a friend and brother, so when they start dating it isn’t what either of them thought it should or could be.

Simon is so sad and it breaks my heart every time because he loves Clary so much. He has always loved her so much, so it breaks his heart when he realizes that even though they’re dating, she will never love him the way he wants to be loved by her. The ending of this book really shows his great character because he tells her that he will always be there for her, but thinks she should find someone else. Aww. It’s so sad but so cute and it just hurts. Simon doesn’t like Jace automatically because he sees how he and Clary look at each other. The sexual tension is intense between Jace and Clary.

Jace is kind of unhealthily obsessed with Clary for a hot sec because he finally gets to kiss her in the Seelie Court, but then everyone is weirded out because OMG THEY’RE SIBLINGS EW. But Jace loves it. Clary loves it. But for some reason they just don’t tell each other that. Ugh. The ending breaks me EVERY TIME. Clary is about to tell Jace that she loves him because she does, then he wrecks it by being nice and selfless and telling her he’s fine with them just living their lives like siblings. Clary is crushed because she finally worked up the courage. Honestly.

I love Luke, and forgot how much I loved his conversation with Clary at the end of the book talking about how he’s in love with Jocelyn. Clary hints to him that she’s fine with their relationship and wants them both to be happy, and then he actually gives her some insight into what happened. Luke offered to marry Jocelyn but didn’t actually tell her that he loved her. She thought it was just out of pity, so she said no. But he’s been in love with for forever and it’s so cute and tragic but cute omg. So Clary tells Luke that he needs to tell Jocelyn that he’s in love with her and it’s just a cute moment.

Jace letting Simon drink his blood on the ship so he didn’t actually die… I’m sure there’s some fanfic about that lol. I like this scene because Jace did it for Clary. And Simon, but he knew how broken Clary would be if Simon died. So he let Simon drink his blood to regenerate himself. Oh yeah, Simon is a vampire now.

THE MALEC RELATIONSHIP IS STARTING AND I’M HERE FOR IT. Alec and Magnus are my favorite couple from the Mortal Instruments. And Simon and Isabelle, but that’s coming up don’t you worry. I love Alec even when he’s in the closet still because he just wants to be happy. He’s been in love with Jace since forever but doesn’t want to tell anyone. Clary and Isabelle are the only ones who know that he’s gay and I just can’t even imagine what that would be like. Especially for him because he’s in love with his parabatai and gay Shadowhunters are shunned. It just makes me sad but all will be well soon enough.

Sorry. SO RAMBLY. But I can’t help it. I just fangirl over literally every aspect in this book. I get something new out of my rereads of this series every time and love that I find new things spread around. Especially little hints that were impossible to catch if you hadn’t already read the series. Cassandra Clare slays me so hard. My queen wow wow wow.

I don’t even remember how many times I’ve read this book anymore, but rereading it made me so unbelievably happy!

I LOVE this series, and the Shadowhunter books are my favorite books. For me, these are my Harry Potter books. So many people went through their difficult preteen years with Harry Potter, and that’s great. I love HP, but the Shadowhunter books ARE my HP. These books have helped me through so much from horrible anxiety to switching friend groups. Reading this brought back so many memories for me.

You can read my original review if you want my original thoughts and gushing even though it’s HELLA CRINGE because I wrote the post when I was 15. Yikes.

This book gets better and better the more I read it. I have this plan that I’m going to read all the Cassandra Clare books before the release of Queen of Air and Darkness on December 4th. I don’t have that long, but it won’t be difficult to read all the books considering I’ve already read them and I LOVE THEM ALL.

I forgot where this book ended. Lol in my original review I said I liked Jace and Clary as a couple and as siblings. ha ha ha hell to the no. They are such a cute couple and I forgot that because they’ve never really been my favorite, but I still really like them. I think my favorite couple is Alec and Magnus, and I can’t wait to find out about this new warlock baby child they adopted because something is up. But this book reminded me that they are so awkwardly horrible at not showing their emotions when they’re siblings. I laughed out loud during the big reveal because I just remember how shook I was when I first read it. Man, good times. This is where it all started.

I also forgot how bad I felt for Simon when Clary was blindsided by his declarations of love and didn’t say that she loved him back. It just hurt my heart. Also, when he fricking shoots the skylight out and kills the Greater Demon that was Dorothea you can tell that he is a vampire. I just realized that because it talked about how he moved unnaturally fast and how he acted so strong. Yes, boi because you’s the Daylighter. I can’t wait for them to realize he’s a vampire again and then we’ll get the Sizzy sexy times with the vampire bites. Yep. Excited for that.

I forgot so much of this book and I’m so glad that I re-read it. I love this series and it means so much to me. I honestly can’t wait until I get later in this series and get to re-read the Dark Artifices again because they might be my favorites, but I’ll also get to revisit Will and Tessa. Yayyyyyyy. I love everything about this re-reading of this series. I can’t wait to see all the things I’ve missed for the books I’ve only read once.

Plot:

The Los Angeles Institute is attacked by Sebastian and the Endarkened Shadowhunters. Julian Blackthorn, his siblings, and Emma Carstairs escape unharmed to Idris. The father of the Blackthorns gets Turned by Sebastian, and the eldest Blackthorn, Helen, ends up taking care of her younger siblings until an uncle from London can come take care of them. Clary sees Emma Carstairs crying and upset and tries to comfort her in a big sisterly way and Clary doesn’t know what to do with herself because Jace has heavenly fire living in his veins; therefore there is little touching and a miniscule amount of kissing. Big battles happen between the Shadowhunters and the Endarkened warriors, and the crew find themselves brought to an alternate dimension that resembles Hell. Demons live in this hellish pit, but the real reason Clary, Jace, Alec, Isabelle, and Simon are there? The Downworlders they love have been taken from them and held hostage. Magnus from Alec, Raphael from Simon, and Luke and Jocelyn from Clary. Simon doesn’t love Raphael, but he has a big connection to him. How will they get out of this demon realm? Do they ever find Magnus, Jocelyn, Luke, and Raphael? What happens to Sebastian? Oh. My. Gosh. This series was so so good. This book was so beautifully written. How Cassandra Clare has woven all these little twists and tidbits of information into the story legitimately baffles me. I don’t get how so many things can be put together to create such an amazing series. I am so grateful to have found these books and to have read them. I cannot wait to read all of Cassandra Clare’s other books alone with whatever she will write in the future.

Characters:

At the beginning I got overwhelmed with all the new characters, but towards the middle I had sorted most of them out. Julian Blackthorn and Emma Carstairs are best friends, but I shipped them together so much. They would have been the cutest couple. I mean, they’re 12, but whatever. Isabelle and Simon are still my OTP. Magnus and Alec are perfect for each other, and Jace and Clary really are a great couple. Luke and Jocelyn are so happy together and it makes me really happy just reading about them. Oh my gosh. The couples in this series. They love each other so much, but for such different reasons. I really enjoyed being introduced to new characters, though. The Blackthorns are a really interesting family and I hope that they’re in the new series she’s writing.

Who Would I Be?:

I would choose to be Emma Carstairs because she just got introduced to the story. I really love that she is best friends with Jules, it reminded me of Clary and Simon. I have always wished I had a bunch of siblings, and it would kind of be like that if I was Emma because she’s always with the Blackthorn family. I think it would be fun to be just starting Shadowhunter training. Although, being Isabelle would be totally amazing. Isabelle is 100% BA and she loves Simon with all her heart, but she doesn’t want to admit it. By the end of the book she knows how she wants everyone to react to her and Simon, so I thinks she is more willing to be public about her relationship. Her vulnerability is really apparent in this book compared to the others. I am so glad to have read these books :)

Plot:

Jace goes missing and the Clave sends out search parties to try and find him, but then a more important matter comes up. The search parties are called off and lessened, but of course, Clary tries to find her true love. Clary, being herself, goes off with a crazy plan after meeting with the faerie council and her friends. She decides to follow Jace and Sebastian in hope of finding something to help, but also be close to her boyfriend. She finds out some information, but loses the way to communicate with anyone. Simon, Isabelle, Magnus, and Alec get a weapon that can hurt only one of the two from the bond and relays the information to Clary. Blood is shed and Shadowhunters are killed. This book was an epic addition to the Mortal Instruments series. I liked this book, but City of Glass is still my favorite from the series. Clary is getting really irritating to me because she just rushes into everything without thinking. I know that’s considered a good quality to some people, but it’s just irritating sometimes. Now I finally get to start City of Heavenly Fire :)

Characters:

No new characters were introduced, really. Magnus is my new favorite character other than Isabelle and Jace. Magnus is the coolest person, well warlock, ever. I want him to be my best friend. He has sparks coming out of his fingers and he always wears glitter. I still love Isabelle, though. She shows her vulnerability in this one again, and she basically said that she’s officially in love with Simon. It’s perfect. Simon and Isabelle are my OTP because they’re perfect together.

Who Would I Be?:

I would honestly choose to be Magnus. He is such a loving person and he helps everyone out all the time and he loves Alec so much. The way he calls Alec his boyfriend is perfect and precious. He’s so in love. I love that he’s in love. It’s so cute. I’d also get to hang out with everyone all the time, which would be super cool.

SUMMER IS HERE! The reason I’ve been MIA is because I don’t have my school computer anymore! I am using my mom’s laptop at the moment and decided to use this as my first summer post. You would think that I would be super happy because I have more time on my hands to read, yes? Well, I do have more time, but I’ve been hanging out with friends instead of reading. I am behind so many books on my Goodreads goal, but I guess that is okay. Anyway, I am still reading City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4) – Cassandra Clare. The reason I’m reading this super slow is because I’ve already read it. I didn’t read it too long ago either. It’s still a very good book, but right now it’s boring for me. I know what’s going to happen and I just want to read City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) – Cassandra Clare. I OWN THE NEW BOOK! I bought it. I knew I was going to, but I COULDN’T RESIST! It’s a beautiful book and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the final book. Plot:

Clary’s mother is in a coma-like sleep and Clary needs to find a way to save her. Magnus Bane, the Warlock, creates a portal into Alicante for Jace and the Lightwoods to go through. Clary tries to tag along, but Jace thinks otherwise. They run into some problems with the portal and Simon ends up getting taken through the portal to Alicante illegally. Problems occur with Jace bringing the vampire to the Shadowhunter city, and Clary finds herself drowning in a lake outside Alicante. Jace and Clary meet the Lightwood’s cousins, Aline and Sebastion. Aline and Sebastion seem nice to them and they befriend the cousins. Clary and Jace are still siblings, and they can’t deal with it. They love eachother in a more intimate way than siblings should. Valentine comes into play in this book and mysteries are revealed. So much happens in this book. This is my favorite of all the Mortal Instruments books. I love the unraveling of mysteries and I love finding everything out. Jace and Clary are so perfect together. I love what happens with Luke and Clary’s mom, and what happens with Alec and his significant other. I love rereading these books because I pick up on so many things I’d forgotten. I can’t wait to reread the others.

Characters:

Again, I love Jace and Clary, and Simon would be the perfect bestfrined. Simon is so loyal and helps Clary in any way she needs it, and supports all of her decisions. Isabelle and Alec woul dbe so cool to meet and be friends with. I absolutely HATE Valentine for what he did to Jace and Clary, and Luke is one of my all-time favorite characters. I love that he’s so caring and loving to both Clary and her mom.

Who Would I Be?:

I would choose to be Isabelle yet again. She’s such a cool person. She might have a short temper, but she’s beautiful and she has a family that loves and accepts her. Alec would be my brother, and I would get to hang out with magnus and Clary all the time. How about yes.

This week I’m reading City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) – Cassandra Clare. I will try and finish it soon to start City of Fallen Angles (The Moral Instruments #4) – Cassandra Clare and then City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) – Cassandra Clare before the LAST ONE COMES OUT! Oh my gosh. I’m so pumped. 12 DAYS. ONLY 12. I can’t wait. Right now I’m at the part in City of Glass where the demon towers in Alicante aren’t working and there is a war beginning to form and it’s epic. I love this part and this is my favorite book out of the whole series. I love City of Lost Souls, (I’ve read them all) but this one is my favorite. *SPOILERS* Okay, you’ve been warned. If you haven’t read the first three or more do not read this part. Simon is a vampire and he’s locked down in jail in Alicante and Jace and Isabelle are bringing him blood because the new Inquisitor threatened to leave him to die if he doesn’t tell a lie to the Clave. He’s not going to tell the made up story beacause the Lightwoods are his friends, well, Clary’s friends, and that would hurt Clary. Simon loves Clary so he can’t do that, obviously. So, he’s staying down in jail with this weird guy in the cell next to his and he’s trying to stay alive, but right now there is a war going on and he can’t get out. *SPOILERS DONE* Like, what? This is unacceptable. Anyway, I love this book and can’t wait to read the others again.

Plot:

Jace and Clary find out they’re siblings and Clary is heartbroken. She loves Jace, but since she knows Jace is her brother, she starts dating Simon. Simon always sees Jace and Clary at the most unfortunate times, for him at least. Jace has feelings for Clary, but he, like Clary, tries to push the feelings down. Valentine is trying to start a war with the Clave because he doesn’t believe in the things they do. He kills and drains blood from a werewolf, a faerie, and a vampire to complete a task with the Mortal Sword. We find out that Alec has a thing for the warlock called Magnus Bane. Simon has a life or death experience, multiple, actually. Lots of demons and some Shadowhunter deaths are included… This book was so good. I’ve already read this book and I loved it even more the second time. I caught onto so many things I’d forgotten from before. It took me a while to finish because I’ve already read it, so I knew what was going to happen. Overall, this is one of the more boring books from this series, but it’s still a great book. I can’t wait to reread the others in the series.

Characters:

Jace is one of my all time favorite characters from any book. He’s perfect, but I will spare everyone from the fangirling. Clary is a strong character, but she gets irritating. She needs to just tell Jace that she’s in love with him. It would make things so much easier on everyone. Alec and Isabelle are still some of my favorite characters. I love Luke and would imagine him as a great fatherly figure, and Magnus Bane would be the perfect best friend. He has parties every weekend and he has a crush on Alec. It’s perfect. Simon is a good character, but I’m always sad when he’s with Clary because he loves her but she doesn’t feel the same way.

Who Would I Be?:

I would choose to be Isabelle because she’s super awesome and stunning. She always dresses nicely and Alec would be a great brother. Being her wouldn’t really be so great in the fact that she’s always in danger, but beyond that I would totally pick her. I love that she has her whip around her wrist at all times as a bracelet, and I love that she’s a Shadowhunter and isn’t helpless like some *cough cough Clary*

Woah, Dere Wednesday (16)

I have an unreasonably high number of books I want to read this month. I have been in sort of a slump lately. Actually, no. It’s not a slump. I blame Tumblr. I am obsessed. Last night, when I could have been reading, I was on Tumblr from 4 until at least 7:30. I have a problem. It is not okay. Anyway, I have a lot of books on my to-be-read list for this month because I want to get out of my slump. I know I need to read the whole Mortal Instruments series before City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) – Cassandra Clare comes out on the 27th *19 DAYS!!*, so those will be my top priority. I am currently half of the way through City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) – Cassandra Clare and I can’t believe how many things I’d forgotten. I read them last summer and I am loving reading them again. I am finding so many things that make sense and add up to the ending of City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) – Cassandra Clare. I am picking up on the subtle hints. I am going to finish and review City of Ashes hopefully tonight and then I will move directly to City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) – Cassandra Clare.
